Thanks to everyone who attended "Haba na haba" on Saturday, February 11, 2012. At last count, the event raised more than $5,000.00 for Family Hope Charity. The Kenyan craft boutique and raffle tickets alone earned more than $1,000.00. Thanks to all who attended, who donated, and who kept us in their hearts and prayers. Watch for details on more fundraising opportunities.
New projects!
10 Korogocho youths are being trained in construction skills, allowing them to build a community cookery and toilet. Might sound strange, but when your house is constructed from cardboard and metal you found in the garbage dump, you don't have those luxuries at home. Even better, the second floor of the structure will house two classrooms for the Touching Angels Primary School. Learn more and make a donation.
And check out the new Family Hope Charity bakery! Collins Gichangi, our baker/instructor begins teaching some of the ladies how to make donuts. Collins worked for two years in a large bakery in a big shopping centre in Dubai before returning to Nairobi. So the project is in capable hands and our mothers should learn alot. All this is possible thanks to the generosity of people like those who attended and suppported Haba na Haba Concert. The bakery is also made possible by a grant from the Exodus Kutoka Network---a consortium of Catholic parishes in the slums of Nairobi.
